Former Bulldog Miles Mastrobuoni makes MLB debut with Rays
Former College of San Mateo baseball standout Miles Mastrobuoni made his Major League Baseball debut with the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday. Mastrobuoni is the sixth former Bulldog to make it to the big leagues since 2013.
Mastrobuoni played two seasons for CSM (2014-15) and head coach Doug Williams. He twice earned first-team All-Coast Conference honors while helping lead the Bulldogs to a conference championship in 2015.
He went on to play at the University of Nevada in Reno and earned second-team All-Mountain West Conference honors in 2016. After an impressive junior season, Mastrobuoni was selected by the Rays in the 14th round of the 2016 MLB Draft.
Mastrobuoni was recently called up from the Triple-A Durham Bulls. He entered Thursday's game as a defensive replacement at second base in the top of the eighth inning for Tampa Bay in its 10-5 win over the Blue Jays. The following night, he cracked the Rays' starting lineup and collected his first MLB hit, a single off Blue Jays' reliever Anthony Bass in the bottom of the fifth.
