Tassio tosses perfect game as No. 1 Bulldogs beat Hartnell in five innings
SALINAS - Gianna Tassio retired all 15 batters she faced Saturday, throwing a perfect game as No. 1 state-ranked College of San Mateo defeated Hartnell College on the road 8-0 in five innings.
CSM improved to 26-0 overall on the season and increased its winning streak to 42 games dating back to last season.
Tassio was dominant in the circle as she struck out five and did not allow a hit, walk or baserunner. CSM committed no errors behind her, leaving Tassio to work through a clean slate in each of the five innings. Tassio, making her fifth start of the season, improved to 4-0 overall.
The offense gave Tassio plenty of support, scoring all eight runs in the first two innings. Peyton Huber went 3 for 3 with a two-run home run and three RBIs. Janelle Ramirez drove in three with a two-run double in a five-run first inning. Nia Mapa went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, and Love Cabanas added an RBI single in the second.
CSM finished with nine hits and drew seven walks against Hartnell starter Katrina Longoria, who allowed all eight runs over five innings.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Tuesday (Mar. 24) when they travel to Monterey Peninsula College for a Coast Conference game.
