Bulldogs Edge Marin 59-55 at Home
SAN MATEO – The College of San Mateo women's basketball team held off a strong fourth-quarter push from College of Marin to earn a 59-55 non-conference victory at home on Saturday.
Marin took a slim 16-14 lead after the first quarter, but the Bulldogs responded in the second, limiting the Mariners to just seven points while scoring 15 of their own to grab a 29-23 halftime advantage.
San Mateo maintained control in the third quarter, outscoring Marin 11-9 to extend the lead to eight heading into the final period. Marin mounted a late comeback by scoring 23 points in the fourth, but the Bulldogs executed down the stretch to preserve the win.
Ravyn Martin led San Mateo with a game-high 18 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double. She also contributed four assists, three steals and three blocks. Tatiana Wilson added 17 points, while Bree Hodge came off the bench to score 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting and grab seven rebounds.
After starting the season dropping eight of their first nine games, the Bulldogs have won two straight to improve to 3-8 overall.
CSM is back in action on Dec. 19 when it hosts a two-day crossover tourney. The Bulldogs will take on Shasta College on Friday at 5 p.m. and are scheduled to play Merced College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
