Dorn smashes own CSM 800 record & decade-old 5K mark at Mike Fanelli Classic
Ericka Dorn broke a pair of College of San Mateo records at San Francisco State's Mike Fanelli Track Classic over the weekend. The sophomore, out of Daly City's Westmoor High, took nearly two seconds off her own Bulldogs mark in the 800 meters on Saturday, running 2:14.98 seconds, the best community college time in Northern California this season and No. 2 in the state. She set the former mark of 2:16.27 last year.
Dorn posted a NorCal best in the 5,000 meters on Friday, 17:46.66, breaking a decade-old CSM record -- and which ranks No. 5 in the state this season. The former Bulldogs mark was 18:04.18 by Mirka Uhlirova in 2016.
Lina Cruz Parada, a CSM freshman from Aragon High, moved up to No. 4 in the Coast Conference at 1,500 meters, running 4:55.29 (an event that Dorn leads at 4:49.27) on Friday at the Fanelli meet.
St. Ignatius Prep grad Noah Gonzalez won the men's collegiate long jump for CSM at the Stanford Invitational on Friday, reaching 22 feet, 9 3/4 inches. He came back on Saturday to triple jump 46-5 1/2, which ranks No. 9 in the state and No. 3 in Northern California this season. His long jump best of 23-4 is No. 5 in the state this year – and just four inches off the state community college lead.
CSM's Evan Usher (from Woodside High) threw the discus, 151-3 at the Delta College Invitational on Friday to move up to No. 3 in Northern California this season.
CSM Coach Kajari Burns will next take the Bulldogs to this weekend's Mt. San Antonio Relays at Hilmer Lodge Stadium (which is named for a former CSM track coach, who later coached there) -- also testing the facility which will be the site of the 2026 3C2A state championships in May. (San Mateo hosted the state meet last season.)
