SAN MATEO – After suffering a pair of tough losses last weekend, the No. 9 state-ranked College of San Mateo women's volleyball team got back on track with a couple of non-conference wins on its home court.
Hosting a tri-match, the Bulldogs cruised to a 3-0 win over Solano College to open the day's action and followed that with a 3-1 victory over No. 18 state-ranked Cabrillo College.
Freshman Synia Hunt totaled 21 kills over the two matches to lead the Bulldogs' offense.
She had a team-best 10 kills in the 25-14, 25-17, 25-17 sweep of Solano. Madison Williams was up next with 7 kills while Kendall Lee and Addison Turner contributed 6 kills.
Danalyn Silva totaled 21 assists with 6 digs and Shun Hernandez-Elorza added 15 assists. Kathleen Suayan led CSM with 12 digs and Julia Mufarreh chipped in with 9 digs, 4 kills, and 2 aces.
CSM had a tougher time in its match vs. Cabrillo. After dropping the opening set, the Bulldogs rallied to take the match by scores of 20-25, 25-21, 27-25, 25-16.
Hunt had 11 kills to lead San Mateo. Brooklyn Gamez totaled 10 kills and 7 digs, Lee contributed 9 kills while Williams, Turner, and Mufarreh all had 5 kills each.
Suayan came through to lead her squad with 22 digs and 6 aces. Silva and Hernandez-Elorza paced the offense with 19 assists each.
CSM improved to 7-3 overall. The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday (Sep. 24) at 5 p.m. when they travel to Santa Rosa Junior College for a non-conference match.
